Republic Act No. 11148, or the Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act, underscores the importance of ensuring that mothers and infants receive proper nutrition, healthcare, and support during this period. The law aims to reduce child stunting, improve maternal health, and promote optimal early childhood development by delivering essential services at the earliest and most formative stage of life.
Unang Isang Libong Araw
Unang Isang Libong Araw provides learning sessions and materials for health workers and parents on the first 1000 days of life in the areas of health, nutrition, and early stimulation.
As the primary point of contact for expecting parents, rural health units serve as the program’s key implementing arm. Their staff are trained to integrate early literacy into maternal health services, prenatal care, and early childhood development support—equipping healthcare workers and parents of children aged zero to two with the knowledge and tools to nurture both health and literacy at home.
