Eager Reader Learning Session: Learning that Gives Back
At Adarna Group Foundation, we believe that learning is strengthened through conversations, shared experiences, and opportunities to learn from others who share the same advocacy.
Through Eager Reader Learning Sessions, AGFI brings together parents, educators, and other individuals in learning sessions focused on early literacy and early childhood education. The Eager Reader Learning Session is more than a learning experience. It is also part of AGFI’s larger commitment to advancing early literacy in communities. Registration fees from the sessions help sustain the Foundation’s early literacy programs and support its continuing work with learning partners, including healthcare workers, child development workers, teachers, and parents.
In this way, every learning session becomes an opportunity to give back. Participants gain knowledge they can put into practice, while their participation also contributes to AGFI’s continuing efforts to build a culture of reading among young Filipino children.
Creating an Eager Reader Environment
For its first batch of Eager Reader Learning Sessions in 2026, AGFI focused on three topics that explored different ways of creating environments where young children can develop positive experiences with reading and learning: Creating Stories for Eager Readers, Preschool Classroom Management, and Creating Literacy Materials.
For Creating Stories for Eager Readers, AGFI invited Adarna House book creators Ms. Liza Flores and Ms. Joshene Bersales to introduce participants to the essentials of creating stories and reading materials that are engaging and developmentally appropriate for young learners. Through their experience as writers and illustrators, they showed how stories can be designed with children’s interests, experiences, and stages of development in mind.
For Preschool Classroom Management, AGFI was joined by Teacher Micah del Mundo, who discussed how co-regulation and establishing an engaging learning environment help develop children’s skills. The session highlighted how the learning environment can also encourage children to explore, interact, and develop positive experiences with reading and learning.
For Creating Literacy Materials, Teacher Lois Jamero explored how educators can make use of accessible resources to create sustainable learning materials that encourage children to develop their literacy skills.
Together, these sessions highlighted that creating eager readers does not happen in one place or through one approach. It takes people who understand children’s needs and are willing to create learning environments that make reading meaningful and engaging.
For the first batch of Eager Reader Learning Session, AGFI was able to connect with 113 eager reader advocates. In the future, AGFI aspires to grow this network and bring this learning session to other communities. AGFI believes that when people come together to support early literacy, they become part of a community working toward a shared goal of making every Filipino child a reader.
