Eager Reader Learning Sessions Series: Building Capacity and Supporting Early Literacy
The Eager Reader Learning Sessions Series is AGFI’s capacity-building and fundraising initiative that equips educators, parents, and advocates with effective strategies in early childhood care and development. Through this platform, AGFI seeks to provide meaningful learning opportunities that equip stakeholders with effective strategies essential in nurturing young learners during their formative years.
More than a professional development program, the Eager Reader Learning Session is also a purpose-driven fundraising initiative of AGFI. The registration fees collected from participants serve as donations, helping fund and sustain the organization’s early literacy programs. By joining the sessions, participants not only invest in their own learning but also actively contribute to expanding access to quality literacy education for children and communities who need it most. Each registration becomes a tangible act of support that enables AGFI to continue implementing various child-centered programs.
Following the success of its earlier 2025 batch, the second batch of the Eager Reader Learning Sessions further advanced AGFI’s mission by focusing on three topics essential to early childhood education: numeracy, early childhood assessment, and creating literacy materials.
Teaching Early Numeracy
The session on Teaching Early Numeracy, facilitated by Teacher Tina Linsangan, emphasized the importance of building strong mathematical foundations through play-based, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate practices. She highlighted the value of a differentiated approach and stressed the importance of aligning the activities according to the current capabilities and developmental levels of children. Participants explored strategies that support the development of number sense, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills in meaningful and engaging ways.
Early Childhood Assessment
Another key topic, Early Childhood Assessment, facilitated by Teacher Micah Del Mundo, highlighted the value of intentional observation and documentation in understanding children’s growth and learning. The session emphasized assessment as a supportive and continuous process—one that identifies children’s needs and promotes inclusive and responsive learning environments. Participants were encouraged to use assessment not merely as a measure of progress, but as a tool for enhancing teaching and caregiving practices.
The Early Literate Child
The Early Literate Child, facilitated by Teacher Lois Jamero, focused on nurturing early language and literacy skills through storytelling, play-based activities, and building print-rich environments. The session underscored the role of educators and caregivers in fostering a love for reading and communication, and helping create a literacy-rich environment for their children. Through sample materials, the participants were able to have an idea of creating sustainable materials that they can create in school and at home.
As AGFI continues this initiative in 2026, the organization will open its first batch of Eager Reader Learning Sessions with topics that include Creating Stories for Eager Readers, Preschool Classroom Management, and Creating Literacy Materials— in support of its commitment to early literacy advocacy and creating a rich environment for children.
