Reading Ready Programs for All

“Para sa batang Filipino” has long been at the heart of the Adarna Group Foundation’s (AGFI) mission. In line with this long-standing commitment to creating programs that benefit every Filipino child, Adarna Group Foundation, in partnership with Bataan Province, recently conducted a special workshop for the Bataan Child Empowerment Council.

The Bataan Child Empowerment Council (BCEC) is one of the province’s programs composed of child development workers and community stakeholders dedicated to improving the welfare of children in the province. Its main goal is to ensure that children in underserved communities have access to quality programs and services that support their growth, education, and overall development. Through initiatives focusing on health, education, and early childhood development, it works with different organizations to create a safe and nurturing environment for children.

Sharing a similar vision, AGFI conducted a workshop titled “Eager Reader Learning Session: The Big 6 of Reading” last December 12, 2025, at Adarna House. The session was facilitated by Teacher Micah Del Mundo and attended by 14 child development workers from different municipalities across Bataan. The workshop aimed to help them understand the concept of reading readiness, enhance the participants’ skills in early literacy instruction, and equip them with practical strategies to strengthen reading in their daycare centers.

During the session, participants learned about the six components of reading—phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and oral language—which are essential for developing strong reading skills in young learners. The workshop included interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities, and discussions on effective ways to engage children in reading.

At the end of the workshop, each participant received big books and picture books. These resources will help enrich children’s reading experiences, encourage a love for reading, and ensure that this workshop extends to their own communities.

This initiative marks a meaningful ending to 2025 for AGFI and the Province of Bataan, while also marking the beginning of even stronger partnerships in advancing literacy for Filipino children.
