AGFI Goes Digital Through Eager Reader Webinars

For the past years, AGFI has been actively promoting its advocacy, early stimulation and early literacy, through Eager Reader workshops. Different speakers who were more than willing to share their expertise on early childhood development were featured in these workshops.

True to its mission,  AGFI continues to reach out in these trying times to its stakeholders in the form of webinars. Since June, it has shifted to a digital platform to reach out to parents, teachers, and advocates of eager readers.

For the month of June, in partnership with Adarna House and The Raya School, 4 webinars were held on the following topics: Supporting your Online Learners, Turning your Online Classroom into a Safe Space, Teaching Reading Online, and Teacher’s Toolbox: A Materials Making Workshop.

Starting July, AGFI offered webinars on its own. Making Storybooks Alive offered tools and information on how to enhance the reading experience of young children. Two topics were discussed: Effective Online Storytelling by Teacher Michelle Agas and Storybook-based Toys and Activities by Teacher Jeanne Ramos-Co. It was attended by 52 participants.

Forty-four participants signed up for the August webinar on Learning through Play. Featuring play as the first learning platform of a child, the webinar had two facilitators: Teacher Ria de la Cruz who spoke on Play Using Music and Movement and Teacher Jico Santos who discussed Play Using the Arts.

In October the featured topic was Materials for the Emergent Learner. Facilitated by Teacher Irish Navarro, the session presented to its forty-four participants concepts and ideas on designing and creating learning materials that can be used at home and online classes. The story told by Teacher Magan Cruda at the start of the session was used as a springboard for the materials designed during the workshop.

What is AGFI planning in the coming months? AGFI intends to shift its attention to sessions for children and learning platforms for its existing communities - all in the digital ecosystem!
